St Mary's Bell Ringers

Contact: Caroline Piercy, John Elliott, Helen Scott or Michael Dunsmore.

We do not have a specific time when we practice but we do organise a time to teach new ringers when people are interested.

St Mary’s Church has eight bells and the heaviest of these (known as the tenor) is 17cwt.

Bell ringing can be undertaken by people of any age from about 12 onwards and is both physically and mentally challenging.

Bells are traditionally rung for Sunday Services, weddings and state and civic occasions. We have a small group of regular ringers and are always keen to recruit new people.

A sound control system that was fitted in 2004 enables us to practice with less noise disturbing those living and working in the vicinity of the church.

Ringing for Sunday Services takes place from 9.45- 10.30am.
