This booklet was written in 2003 by Alan Wilkinson, local historian and retired English teacher, to accompany the inaugural lecture that he gave on the founding of the Friends group.
The text is based on his talk and is illustrated by photographs. It covers nearly nine centuries of the history of the building and the links of the church with the townsfolk.
