St Mary's Church, Whorlton - Organ Restoration

Castle Consort of singers perform in aid of the organ fund at Whorlton

Due to the generosity of local villagers and the success of a grant application made to the Council for the Care of Churches, the Church Council felt able to apply for permission to carry out work on the restoration of the organ at St. Mary's Whorlton at the beginning of 2003. Over £23,000 has been raised towards the project. Work, carried out by Mr. John Lightbown (Organ Builder), was completed in the late summer of 2003.

The inaugural organ recital by Mr. James Lancelot (Durham Cathedral Organist) was performed on October 17th 2003.
