Have you ever wandered past St Mary’s Parish Church and wondered what it’s all about? How old is the building? Is it Victorian or Medieval? What is its story and how does it fit into the history of the town?
Join us on a tour to travel back in time and learn about the history of St Mary’s Parish Church and Barnard Castle. Discover hidden windows, blocked up doorways and follow the traces of one of England’s most famous kings.
The tour will take approximately 30 minutes and we offer different time slots.
During the week, tours will take place daily at 11am and at 3pm
On Saturday, the tour will take place at 12:30pm
On Sunday, the tour will take place at 1:30pm
Keeping you safe
In response to Covid-19, we are following public health guidance and may have additional measures in place, which are carefully designed to keep you and our staff safe and healthy. This means that you will have to wear a mask while you are inside the church, with the exception of those who are medically exempt or under 11 years of age.

We also hold back a small number of tickets for walk-ins on the day. These places will be distributed on a first come first served basis. So make sure you come early to save yourself a space!
