The Flower Guild is a friendly group of people who enjoy arranging flowers in church on a rota basis.
Flower Guild members are often asked if a flower arrangement can be placed in Church to remember a loved one, perhaps for an anniversary or on a birthday or other significant date. With a couple of weeks’ notice the Flower Guild can organise this for you in return for a small donation to Church Funds. We can also decorate the church for weddings and other special occasions.
Flowers will be purchased with your donation and arranged on a pedestal for you. You are welcome to come into the Church on the day of the anniversary to see the flowers (and perhaps also light a candle), and also to join us for the service on Sunday.
We do not have flowers in Church during Lent, so during this period it may be necessary to choose an alternative date.
St Mary’s Flower Guild have been unable to hold their usual get-togethers in 2020 but members have been able to create some floral arrangements in the Church when permitted by the (ever-changing) restrictions. Fortunately flower-arranging lends itself to social distancing and involves plenty of hand-washing and sanitiser. As a result, the Church has continued to have a limited number of arrangements including commissions for weddings and anniversaries, displays for Remembrance Sunday and of course, Christmas. These can be seen in the online streamed services still available to view via St. Mary’s Barnard Castle with Whorlton Facebook page. Members made cemetery wreaths which could be purchased by telephone and delivered contact-free to many people who regularly support every year. As a result, the Flower Guild continues to be able to make a net contribution to church funds.
New members are always welcome. Please contact Joan Kemp-Ambler (01833 638908) or June Wherry (01833 638423)
